FAQs

  • MakeTheLine is a marching arts brand that provides students everywhere with access to the tools they need to achieve their marching goals, and connects marchers with professional instructors at the top of the marching community. Students may be auditioning for their favorite group, or progressing throughout their drumline to their dream instrument, or, want to learn from top marchers they’ve admired from afar.

As individuals lucky enough to attend high schools that competed on a national level in both WGI and throughout the marching arts world, we were quickly exposed to a major issue within the marching community- many individuals who happened to live away from top high school marching groups were not exposed to the same level of instruction, connections, and experience as others. These geographic barriers create a huge discrepancy amongst young marchers, especially those auditioning to top marching groups, creating advantages within the marching community.

We founded MakeTheLine in hopes that all students have access to top instructors and supportive mentorships within the community, regardless of their physical location and school affiliation. We offer private lesson plans and video critiques from instructors with World Class experience in DCI and WGI with the hopes that we help prevent the barriers that many students have experienced in the past. In the future, we hope to tackle financial barriers with lesson and marching scholarships.

  • Our amazing MakeTheLine instructors have marched and teched at numerous DCI and WGI groups, including Blue Devils, Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, Broken City, Pulse, RCC, and Thesis, with rich knowledge of various techniques and marching styles. When you schedule your lesson in the “Scheduling” section of the website, we will pair you with an instructor of your choice, or someone who matches your availability and preferences if you do not already have an instructor in mind.

  • Our Video Critiques were created for students interested in receiving personal feedback from MTL instructors without having to commit to a lesson, or to get a feel for the feedback that you will be receiving from your prospective instructors.

  • MakeTheLine prioritizes supportive instruction to students of all skill levels, from beginners to DCI veterans. Our instructors have worked and taught with students of all levels of experience, and are excited to work with you!

  • By signing up for an individual lesson, you are not subscribing to a recurring lesson plan, however, we offer lessons with whatever frequency works best for our student. If you are looking for a recurring lesson plan, select ‘recurring lesson’ when scheduling your lesson and we will contact you about your desired frequency. To schedule more than one lesson a week or with more than one instructor, sign up for as many separate time slots as you would like and work with instructors throughout the week.
